Life Is A Highway

The physical world was created for the benefit of the spiritual world. The body was created for the benefit of the soul. Life is a highway. The road is not always well-paved. No shortcuts exist. Breakdowns and crashes happen all the time. We have to keep on truckin’ despite adverse conditions. Knowing where you are going is invaluable. Hopefully, you reach where you want to be before you run out of gas. I recommend Tom Cochrane’s Life Is a Highway (1991) if you are looking for the perfect song to sing on your journey. It’s a lot more fun than 99 Bottles of Beer.

Wake Up Everybody

Most of us have a warped sense of reality. We adopt behaviors and ways of thinking from others. Then we rationalize what we have inherited. We believe that we see things as they are. Most of us are wrapped up in illusions. Everybody needs to wake up. Our world could be a much better place. Question everything. Question the way that you were raised. Question what our leaders say and do. Question what is written in books. Question what is written in stone. Wake Up Everybody (1975), by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes with Teddy Pendergrass, has a meaningful message for us all. Be a thinker.

Heart’s On Fire

Music is more powerful than a lot of us realize. I love to use it for inspiration. Heart’s On Fire (1986), by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band, inspires me to try to be great whenever I want it to. Mediocrity is not so appealing when this song plays. Greatness is not just beautiful. It is attainable.

We Are The Champions

I was never any good at playing basketball but I was always great at watching it. My favorite player is Bill Russell. He is the greatest team player in the history of the NBA. When all is said and done, the greatest team player must be regarded as the greatest basketball player to ever play on a team. Great team players can be stars in the forefront or background. Bill Russell had a wide selection of hats and knew when to wear them. The astonishing athleticism of today’s NBA players does not necessarily correlate with skill level or team play. We Are The Champions (1977), by Queen, makes me think about the NBA’s greatest team players. Unless the NBA ever switches to a one-on-one format, its greatest champions will always be the driving forces behind team victories.
