Many of us feel that we can determine what we would do in just about any scenario. We play it out in our heads. It is important to realize that we often cannot be sure of how we would handle difficult situations. Playing a scenario out in our heads is not the same as experiencing it. We often cannot allow for all the different factors that would affect our decisions. Additionally, your immediate reaction could differ from what you might have done if you had taken more time to decide. Deliverance (1972) is a phenomenal film that is very relevant to this discourse. It challenged me to explore how well I knew myself. Most of us think that we know ourselves very well. Adversity often proves us wrong.
