Brian Wilson is the greatest musician who ever lived. Be My Baby (1963), by The Ronettes, is his favorite song. It also happens to be a favorite of mine. However, I do not like this song as much as Brian does. Other songs, including plenty of Brian Wilson’s compositions, have pushed it down on my list from the top spot. I imagine that Brian hears something in Be My Baby that I never will. I believe he hears a result of brilliance that could not have come from his own. I have read a lot about Brian Wilson and we seem to have many things in common (aside from the genius attribute). I think one of them is that any creative work that claims first place in our minds could not have come from ourselves. Our favorites are foreign.
